FEELING...LIKE A POPSICLE

Lately, I can't help but be drawn to bright colors which has had me thinking of one of my favorite summertime treats. I actually tried my hand at making homemade popsicles over the weekend and the results were much tastier than any version I made with Kool-Aid growing up. I think it's safe to say you can expect a few popsicle recipes popping up around here before summer is over with. In the meantime, here are a few things that made me smile and reminded me of this classic summer treat.

LET'S EAT: CHICKEN PANZANELLA SALAD

Among the many things I love about summer, food definitely ranks high on the list of things I look forward to as the temperatures rise and the days grow longer. Some of my favorite summer foods include just about anything you can throw on the grill, eat on a stick or pull from your garden, which is why I thought I'd share this salad recipe with you. It's nothing too complicated, but the refreshing citrus dressing makes this salad a summer staple of mine. Try it and let me know what you think!

RANDOM ACTS OF INSPIRATION / 3

I love this combination of punchy pinks paired with the serene blue hues of this breathtaking sunset. In many ways these pictures seem like polar opposites, which is exactly why I think they look so good together. On the left the mood is calm, while on the right the same colors are more striking and edgy. I'm in love!

CONQUERING FEAR

When I started this blog a few years ago, I had no idea what I was doing, and to be honest sometimes I still don't. All I knew was that I wanted to create a place where I could push myself creatively, share the things that inspire me and hopefully inspire you along the way.

At the time, I was working two jobs and the thought of starting a blog on top of it all seemed next to impossible, but I decided to go for it anyway. Although I had lingering thoughts of waiting until I had more time, until I had enough money for fancy props and equipment or until I could learn more about photography and teach myself coding, I realized if I kept waiting for the perfect time to get things started, it may never happen. Of all the things holding me back, that thought scared me the most, so I decided to go for it.

Since then, I have had plenty failed DIY's, recipes that didn't make the cut, numerous posts I had to rephotograph until they were just right and I wouldn't change a thing. Although I would hardly say I am an experienced blogger, I have learned a lot and have enjoyed the progress I've made so far, even if my blog continues to be a work in progress.

Speaking of a work in progress, I stepped in front of the camera this weekend to try my first style post and it was definitely outside my comfort zone. I am much more comfortable on the other side of the camera directing a shoot, but my talented friend Brooke helped boost my confidence and snapped these pictures of me in the park over the weekend. It was a windy afternoon, and after dealing with my nerves, fussing with my windblown hair and trying to keep my dress in place, I finally loosened up a bit and just had fun with it.

DIY: AGATE SLICE MAGNETS

A while back I featured agate slice magnets in a gift guide for the holidays and I've been wanting to DIY my own set ever since. Sometimes the best DIY's are also the easiest, and this project proves just that. All you need are agate slices in your choice of colors, a few magnets and super glue. I purchased my agates while on vacation in Santa Fe for a couple dollars each, but you can find similar agates here. For a fraction of the cost, I was able to achieve a similar look to the store-bought version and add an unexpected pop of color to the kitchen refrigerator.

SIPS AND SNACKS: EDAMAME HUMMUS

When it comes to eating habits, I would definitely be classified as a "snacker" since I rarely make it between meals without needing something to tie me over. I frequently have snacks stashed in my purse and I have a fully stocked snack drawer at work. I know that might sound a little crazy, but I have found if I stock up on healthy snacks, it helps me avoid grabbing an unhealthy alternative when I can't get away from my desk at lunch or if I get stuck working late.

Lately I've been on a huge hummus kick, so I thought I would try making this edamame version for something new. With only a few ingredients, this recipe is really easy and the results are much better than any store bought version I've tried. For a little kick, I highly recommend garnishing this dip with sriracha. Not only does it taste amazing, but it dresses it up for entertaining too!

RANDOM ACTS OF INSPIRATION / 2

A second in my series, (see the first here) I am currently feeling inspired by sunsets and skinny belts. I am loving this balance of bright citrus hues with cool blues. It somehow strikes a balance between bright and energizing, while also feeling very calm and peaceful. Just what I need for a Monday!
