THOUGHTS FOR A MONDAY

For the most part, this blog is dedicated to my love of color and design, tackling DIY projects and trying out new recipes. From time to time, I like to pop in and give you a peek at the things going on in my life, but ultimately my goal is to focus on creative content and hopefully inspire you to try something new. The reality is, there is a lot that goes on beyond the pages of this blog, and it was bound to be a matter of time before I wrote about another passion of mine, running.

I started running when I was about 13 and I can still remember the feeling of accomplishment after running my very first mile. I continued on throughout high school and college and have also run a few marathons, and can say that without a doubt, running has brought an infinite amount of positive experiences into my life. Through the people I've met, the places I have ran and the sense of perseverance it has instilled in me, running has played a large role in who I am today. Today's attack at the Boston Marathon deeply saddens me for many reasons, but particularly because running has always been such a positive in my life. It upsets me to know that an event, like the Boston Marathon, has been affected in such a negative way. I am thankful that those I knew participating in today's race are safe, and my heart goes out to those who were affected by the attack.

I took the image above in the starting corral at the 2012 Chicago Marathon.
